Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the experimental American carrier fighter Grumman XF5F-1 Skyrocket in 1:48 scale from Academy. The model captures the unusual twin-engined prototype with its pair of vertical tail surfaces and its characteristically short nose, which did not project beyond the leading edge of the wing. The exact contents of the package and the decals follow from the manufacturer's part number.
The Grumman XF5F-1 Skyrocket was Grumman's first attempt at a twin-engined carrier fighter. The prototype first flew in 1940 and was powered by a pair of radial engines. The machine drew attention for its unusually short nose and its twin vertical tail surfaces. The XF5F-1 never entered series production and remained a prototype, but the experience from its development fed into the later and successful twin-engined fighter, the Grumman F7F Tigercat.
Cut the parts off the sprues and glue the joints with a thin modeling cement for plastic. Glue the cockpit glazing with a canopy cement so that the plastic does not fog, and mask it before painting. Apply a primer before painting and cover with an airbrush; pre-war and early-war American prototypes carried gloss yellow upper wing surfaces and metallic silver or gray shades, so pick out the panel lines with a wash after the gloss coat and the decals.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
