This is a limited edition from the Czech maker Eduard in 1:48 scale. The Dual Combo designation means that the package contains two complete kits rather than one, which is an established marking on Eduard's limited editions. These editions usually have richer contents and an extended booklet with color schemes; check the particular contents of this package and the type of aircraft the edition covers on the box.
The name of the edition refers to the fighting for Guadalcanal, that is the campaign in the southwest Pacific in 1942 and 1943. It was a long campaign flown from improvised field strips in a tropical environment, and that is exactly what shows in the look of the machines: worn and faded finishes, dusty and muddy undersides, markings added to and painted over. For a modeler it is a rewarding subject, because a pair of models in one box makes it possible to put two machines from the same setting side by side and tell them apart precisely by the degree of wear.
With a double package it is worth building both models in parallel, as it saves time when mixing paints and when varnishing. Finish and varnish the interiors before you close the fuselages. Varnish the surface to a gloss under the decals and use a softener; with the richer schemes this markedly improves how they settle. Build the wear up in layers: first a shaded base coat, then filters and a wash into the engraving, and only at the end dry pigments on the undersides and the landing gear. So that the pair of models does not look like copies, give each machine a different degree of fading and differently placed scuffed areas.
The models are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
