A detailed resin set of the cockpit for kits of the Harrier GR.3 airplane in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Aires. This is not an airplane kit but an accessory that is fitted into a separately sold plastic model in place of the original cockpit. Aires is among the benchmarks for resin cockpits: the castings capture the instrument panels, the side consoles, the seat and the texture of the floor in a detail injection-molded plastic does not reach. The exact contents of the package, including the number of parts and the supplementary materials, are stated on its packaging.
On models in 1:48 scale the cockpit is the most closely watched place, as practically everything is visible under an open canopy. A resin cockpit tub replaces the simplified plastic part and brings sharp edges to the panels, levers in relief and a more faithful seat. The result shows up above all on a model displayed with an open cockpit.
Fitting a resin cockpit almost always calls for work on the kit: the inner walls of the fuselage have to be thinned and the tub tried dry step by step until the fuselage halves seat without strain. Proceed in small steps and rather take away less. Wash the mold release agent off the parts, cut the casting blocks off with a saw, sand wet and with your airways protected. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Painting is easier before the fitting into the fuselage: a primer coat, the shade of the interior, a dark wash into the recesses and a dry brush on the edges. Pick out the labels of the instruments only at the end.
This is not a model kit. The set is intended to complete a separately sold plastic kit; the base model, glue and paints are not part of the package.
