An accessory for building a model of the British jet fighter in 1:48 scale. The set replaces the cockpit from a plastic kit with a resin casting of richer detail: the cockpit tub, the instrument panel, the side consoles and the ejection seat. It is not a model of the aircraft nor a kit for one; the base model is not included in the package.
On a model in 1:48 scale the cockpit is the first place the viewer looks, and at the same time the part that injection-molded plastic treats most economically. A resin casting makes it possible to capture the recesses, the wiring, the levers and the fine texture of the panels in one piece, with no parting lines. On an early jet aircraft such as the Hunter this is moreover a cockpit with a large share of hand-operated items, so the difference against the plastic base is clearly visible even under a closed canopy.
The set as a rule calls for removing material from the inner side of the fuselage halves: proceed in small steps and keep dry-fitting until the halves close without pressure. Wash the mold release agent off the castings and cut the casting blocks away with a razor saw and wet sanding. Paint and complete the cockpit in full before closing the fuselage. The detail comes through after the base shade with a dark wash in the recesses and a fine dry brush on the edges. Seat belts and small linkages will give the scene scale better than any further emphasis with paint.
This is an accessory for building a model, not a standalone kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
