A set of MH models painting masks for spraying the German crosses onto a model of the Heinkel He 111 in the H-3 version, 1:48 scale. The package contains masks for painting the markings, not parts of the model.
The He 111H-3 belongs to the early machines of the extensive H series. The set is cut for the dimensions and shapes of that particular version, so there is no guessing whether the size of the insignia matches the scale, which with decals from various sources tends to be a frequent problem. Sprayed crosses also hold on a model just as well as the surrounding finish.
The crosses on the fuselage of the He 111 fall on an area curved in two directions at once, and they often run across panel joints and rows of rivets. A flat template lifts at the corners in such a place. The solution is simple and proven: cut the edge of the mask outside the actual outline in several places into rays, so that the individual tabs can overlap and the mask follows the shape. Leave the outline of the insignia itself untouched. After laying it down, go around the whole perimeter with a cotton bud or a blunt stick and press the edge down with particular care where it crosses riveting, because that is where paint runs underneath most often. With deeper joints it pays to push the masking material into the groove rather than bridging it.
This is not a kit. The set contains painting masks only; the model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
