A set of MH models painting masks for spraying the markings onto a model of the Heinkel He 111H-6 matching the machines deployed in North Africa and in the Mediterranean, 1:48 scale. It follows on from the masks for the national insignia of the same form, which are sold separately. The contents of the package are given by the manufacturer on the box. The sizes of the markings match the fuselage and wings of the ICM kit.
Models in desert form are usually finished heavily weathered, with rubbed leading edges, dust deposits and faded paint. That is the situation in which sprayed markings play their greatest part: they have no carrier film, so they rub, filter and dust exactly as the surrounding paint does, and nowhere is there a sharp transition between a decal and the finish.
Proceed by letting the paint of the markings cure thoroughly after the masks are removed, and only then start weathering. Do the rubbing with pigment or a dry brush directly across the insignia rather than around it, because with decals that would damage the film, whereas here you can afford it. Lay a filter or a very thinned wash over the whole area including the markings; it unifies the tone and rids the insignia of an unnatural cleanliness. If you want to subdue the insignia further still, add a thin, heavily thinned coat of the base camouflage shade applied over the edges. Finally matte the whole model in a single pass, so that the gloss of the varnish, of the markings and of the weathering merges. It is precisely this last step that decides whether the result will look like a single whole.
This is not a kit. The set contains painting masks only; the model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
