1:48 Humber LRC Mk.2: a CMK kit

A model of the British light reconnaissance armored car Humber LRC in the Mk.2 version, in 1:48 scale. CMK is a Czech brand and its line of military vehicles in this scale is popular mainly because it complements aircraft models: most aircraft kits are built in 1:48, and a ground vehicle turns a display case into a scene.

The real subject

The Humber Light Reconnaissance Car was a British light armored car built on the chassis of a civilian passenger car and intended for reconnaissance, liaison and patrol duty. It had all-wheel drive, a small turret or an open gunner's position and armor that was enough against small arms fire and splinters. Vehicles of this type served with British reconnaissance units and with formations guarding airfields, so a diorama with an aircraft, a hangar or a crew on patrol around a runway is entirely in place with them.

Building and painting tips

A model in 1:48 is small, and cleanliness decides all the more: cut the parts off with a sharp knife and sand the seams with fine abrasive paper, so that the edges of the armor stay preserved. If there are resin parts in the package, wash them in lukewarm soapy water before building, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and bond them with super glue, not with plastic glue; protect your breathing when sanding resin. British vehicles are painted in dark olive or in desert shades. A dry brush brings out the rivets and edges, a dark wash brings the engraved lines to life, and fine dust on the wheels and fenders gives the model life.
