A masking set for modelers, not a model. The package contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks of kabuki paper in 1:48 scale for the JD-1D Invader version in the service of the US Navy. In the New Ware range the EXPERT grade is above the BASIC grade, so the extent of the set tends to be wider. The particular list of masks is given in the instructions in the package.
The Invader is a fairly large twin-engine aircraft, so even in 1:48 scale it is a sizeable model with a corresponding area to paint. There are more masking tasks than on a fighter: the glazing of the pilot's cockpit, the glazing in the forward part of the fuselage and three landing gear wheels. The higher grade of the set is aimed at a modeler who wants masking covered over a wider extent and does not want to cut any part to size out of tape by hand. That makes sense especially with a scheme with smooth metal or dark areas, where every inaccuracy shows.
Wash and degrease the clear parts and only then stick the masks on. Press the edges with a blunt tool along their whole length, as with long straight frames the ends lift easily. Apply the interior shade first, then the base coat and finally the top color. Keep the coats thin. On large models, plan the order of painting so that you do not hold the model by freshly sprayed areas while handling it. Remove the masks with tweezers and a pull at an angle, while the finish has not yet cured. Apply the weathering and the traces of operation only once the masks are off and a protective coat has been applied.
The set does not contain the model, paints or glue. Before buying, check that the masks match the kit you are building.
