A set from the Czech maker Hauler, cut for a specific Hasegawa kit. It holds the armament of the vehicle and small equipment, that is, exactly the items that turn an ordinary model into a machine with a definite purpose. An armed light vehicle is a rewarding subject: a machine gun set above the body changes the silhouette markedly and draws the eye, but at the same time it makes demands on the quality of the casting, because the weapon is slender and stands right at the top of the model, where nothing covers it.
An open cross-country vehicle was routinely fitted with a machine gun on a pintle mount, usually in the middle of the vehicle behind the front seats or beside the passenger. The vehicle thus gained firepower for reconnaissance and patrol work without losing mobility. Related to the armament is the small equipment that appears on armed vehicles: boxes, securing items and accessories for the weapon. The form differed according to the unit and according to how the crew had adapted the vehicle.
Wash the castings in warm water with detergent and cut the casting blocks off with a saw; the thin barrel breaks more easily than you expect, so support it with a finger right at the cut. Glue the weapon with super glue only once the vehicle is finished and painted, or you will keep catching on it. Never paint a machine gun in glossy silver - the metal parts look convincing in a dark gun-steel shade with gentle drybrushing on the edges and on the moving parts. It pays to set wooden and canvas items apart in a warmer tone. Finally check that the weapon points straight and that its axis matches the position of the mount, because a machine gun set crooked is visible on a finished model at first glance.
The set holds accessory parts only and is supplied unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
