The Junkers Ju 188 came about as a development of the proven Ju 88. You will recognize it by the different shape of its glazed nose, its more angular vertical tail surface and its pointed wingtips. The name Rächer became established for the type, and the A-1 version belonged among its combat forms. The landing gear wheels went through changes during production just as on its predecessor, so late machines carried wheels of a different form from the first series.
The set contains wheels of the late form in 1:48 scale with a weighted tire contact patch and, according to the name, paint masks for them as well. The flat spot imitates a tire loaded by a standing aircraft and the model thus gains a sense of weight. The masks separate the rubber from the hub when spraying, so there is no need to go around the boundary with a brush. How many pieces the package contains is given by the manufacturer in the instructions.
The flat spot has to point toward the ground when gluing, otherwise the wheel looks damaged. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder without disturbing the circumference of the rim. Stick the mask onto the hub before spraying and take it off while the paint is fresh. A dark gray shade with a hint of brown suits rubber; pure black looks flat in this scale and takes the shape away from the wheel.
It suits a modeler who is building the Ju 188 in 1:48 scale and wants loaded wheels with cleanly separated hubs under the machine. Paints, glue and tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
