The television-guided bomb 1:48 KAB-1500 KR by AMMO of Mig Jimenez is among the heaviest Russian precision ordnance for tactical bombers.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pair of Russian guided aerial bombs in the heaviest domestic tactical class, as the firm AMMO of Mig Jimenez has rendered them in modeling scale. They are used to complete the armament of a finished model of a ground-attack aircraft or a frontline bomber.
The letter in the designation gives away the method of aiming. The version with the suffix KR has a television camera in its forward part and a unit that remembers the image of the target entered before release. The airman picks a characteristic object out on a screen in the cockpit, confirms it, and from that moment the bomb compares its surroundings with the stored subject by itself until it lands on it. The carrier can turn away immediately after release, which over a well-defended area means a great deal. The disadvantage is obvious: without daylight, and in dense cloud or smoke, the system has nothing to work with. These bombs are carried by the Su-24M and the newer Su-34, that is, by types with carrying capacity enough for a ton and a half on a single pylon.
Russian guided ordnance tends to be simply colored, but a seeker head with optics deserves attention: the clear or dark round face at the nose is the most conspicuous detail of the whole bomb. It pays to mask it before spraying. Choose a glue corresponding to the material of the parts and align the mountings carefully.
