The penultimate grade of the low-profile scale. A head 1.9 mm in size suits places where the fastener should be clearly readable as a separate component.

Between 1.8 and 2.0 mm lies a value builders keep as a safeguard. A tenth of a millimeter looks negligible on paper, but on a finished part the difference is noticeable: the eye already reads a head 1.9 mm in size as a particular component, not as mere surface texture. That is exactly the moment when the detail starts to matter and when a builder has to answer what the subject is actually held together by.
On a real machine the division is almost always the same. Where something opens, is removed or is replaced, a bolt sits: gearbox lids, engine covers, wheel hubs, hatch hinges, suspension arms. The load-bearing skeleton, the skin and everything that was never taken apart in the machine's life is held by rivets. Once you have made this map from a photograph of the subject, you stop deciding by appearance and start deciding by function, which is more reliable.
A low profile means a wide but shallow hexagon. Paint behaves differently on it than on a tall head: the edges wipe off more slowly, but the surroundings get clogged faster. With a dry brush, therefore, a lighter hand is enough than with domed shapes.
