A masking set for the landing gear bays of models of the Japanese N1K2-J Shiden Kai fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The N1K2-J Shiden Kai is a Japanese fighter from the end of the Second World War. It was created by reworking the older Shiden type: the wing was moved to the low position, which made it possible to shorten the long and troublesome landing gear, and the structure of the fuselage was simplified. It was among the best Japanese fighters of its day and was put into action in the last year of the war.
Masks shaped to the cutouts of the landing gear bays of a model in 1:48 scale. The extent of the set and the kit the masks are tuned for are given in the manufacturer's instructions. With this kind of accessory the shape of the mask is tied to a particular kit, so it pays to check that in advance.
They are applied before spraying, to a clean, dry and degreased surface. The bays are usually painted first, in their own shade, and only then covered, so that the color of the underside of the fuselage and wings does not settle on them. Press the edges of the mask down with a toothpick, otherwise the paint creeps under and the edge is blurred. Spray thinly and rather in two goes. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried and pull it back over itself at a shallow angle; if it is lifted late, the fresh layer at the edge likes to flake away.
For modelers who build the Shiden Kai in 1:48 scale and want the transition between the color of the bays and the lower surface to be crisp, without laboriously taping it up in small pieces.
The model, the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
