Pre-cut templates for the glazing of the Japanese Kawasaki Ki-61-II Hien fighter in 1:48 scale. The package holds two films, the outer one for the canopy frames and the inner one for the panes from the opposite side. The shapes match the kit by the brand RS Models and concern the glazing only.

Kawasaki went against the grain of domestic practice. While Japanese fighters of the day were powered by radial engines, the Hien received a liquid-cooled V12 engine derived from a German design, which gave it a slim nose and a silhouette so unusual that Allied pilots at first took it for a European type. The second production version was to bring a fundamental leap: the stronger Ha-140 powerplant and a reworked, larger wing. The engine proved unreliable, though, and its production lagged so badly that dozens of airframes stood at the airfield without powerplants. The solution was surprising and successful in the end: a radial engine was built into those airframes and so the Ki-100 type came about, which turned out to be one of the best Japanese fighters of the closing stages of the war.
The canopy of the Hien consists of a windscreen, a sliding middle section and a fixed rear cover. A modeler usually wants them sprayed so that the frames match up even with the cockpit open. Here it helps that the sheet carries inner as well as outer shapes: the frame can be colored from both sides and an open canopy then stands a close look. When applying, it is good to let the film adhere for a moment and only then to spray, so that the adhesive has time to seat into the groove of the frame.
