Open engine deck grilles for the King Tiger with the early turret, 1:48 scale from Artwox Model replace the solid plastic relief with a genuinely open mesh.
Responsibility details are not available.
The accessory is aimed at the upper rear surface of the Tiger II heavy tank in the version with the so-called Porsche turret. Injection-molded kits tend to render the openings of the cooling system as solid relief, because a mold cannot create a genuinely open mesh. The set removes this weakness and opens the engine deck up into depth.
The Tiger II entered production in 1944 as the heaviest German tank put into production service. The first examples built were given a turret with a rounded front, which modelers call the Porsche turret after the original design; later machines exchanged it for a squarer shape with a flat front plate. It is exactly the early version that is attractive to collectors, because it occurred in fairly small numbers.
An open mesh only makes sense when there is darkness visible beneath it. Paint the inside of the engine compartment a very dark shade therefore, before you seat the grilles. A flat surface is the key: back the mesh lightly and press it down so that no bubble is left anywhere. Meter the cyanoacrylate glue out in drops from a point, so that it does not spread over the visible surface.
The set serves to modify a kit you have already obtained and does not replace it.
