Landing gear bay plugs for the LaGG-3 in 1:48 scale protect the inside of the bays while the outer finish of the model is sprayed. The target kit is Zvezda.
Responsibility details are not available.
The shaped plugs go into the landing gear bays of a model of the Soviet fighter and protect their interior while the outer finish is sprayed. The accessory does not replace a kit, it is bought to go with one. The item comes from the Omask workshop.
The Zvezda kit serves as the basis; it is bought separately.
The bays tend to be among the first things painted, and during further spraying they are hard to protect with strips of tape, because paint finds its way in around the edges. A plug set in place keeps the edge clean and saves laborious tidying up with a brush. At the same time it leaves the rest of the underside of the wing free, so the work flows without interruption. It also helps during further work on the model, since sanding dust otherwise falls easily into an open bay.
The LaGG-3 was a Soviet fighter of the early war years whose airframe rested largely on a wooden structure with resin-impregnated plywood. The V12 Klimov engine in the nose gave it a slender shape, but its considerable weight told on its performance. The individual production batches differed in armament and in the shape of the canopy, and out of this design the more successful La-5 series eventually grew. The aircraft appeared in combat from 1941 and some of them finished their service with training units.
Neither paints nor the model are part of this accessory.
