A resin set of landing gear wheels for the British Avro Lancaster heavy bomber in the Mk.I and Mk.III versions in 1:48 scale. According to the name the package holds the main wheels and the tailwheel including its leg. It is not a kit of the aircraft: it is a replacement set of parts for a plastic kit you already have under construction.
The special value here lies in the tailwheel being supplied with its leg. In a kit this assembly tends to be put together from several plastic parts, because a mold cannot make it otherwise, and that is exactly why it holds its angle and axis badly. A one-piece resin casting removes the whole problem: the leg and the wheel come as one, in the right geometry, with no seams and no guessing about exactly where a part belongs. With the main wheels the chief benefit is then a tread with no parting plane, which on plastic would have to be sanded away and the pattern then restored.
The Lancaster was a British four-engined heavy bomber of the Second World War with an unusually roomy bomb bay running almost the whole length of the fuselage. The Mk.I and Mk.III versions differed above all in the origin of their powerplants; outwardly they are very close, so the set covers both.
Separate the parts from the casting block with a fine saw and make the cut where it will be hidden after assembly, on the main wheels at the hub contact face. Wash the castings in warm soapy water before gluing, otherwise mold release agent would keep the paint from taking. They are bonded with super glue; cement for plastic does not dissolve resin. With a large bomber one more thing pays off: check that the model stands level on all three points once the wheels are fitted, before the glue hardens.
This is an accessory to a model, not a standalone kit. It is supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
