1:72 PBY-5 Catalina - 'Black Cats'

PBY-5 Catalina Black Cats 1:72 (waterslide decals)

A set of waterslide decals devoted to the legendary night Catalinas nicknamed the Black Cats, in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit but a stand-alone decal sheet with which you complete a plastic model of the PBY-5 Catalina flying boat. The printing is done with a fine technique and sharp register.

The real subject

The Black Cats were PBY Catalinas of the US Navy which during the Second World War were given an all-black night finish and operated after dark over the Pacific. They searched out and attacked Japanese shipping, carried out night patrols and rescued crews. The black camouflage finish gave them both their name and their typical look.

Use and tips

• Apply them over a smooth gloss varnish, ideally with a softening and setting solution.
• On a dark base, check the covering power of the light items beforehand.
• Coat the finished markings with clear varnish of the sheen you want.

Who the set is for

• Modelers building the PBY-5 Catalina in 1:72 scale
• Anyone interested in the Pacific night operations of the US Navy
• Collectors of naval aircraft

This is a set of decals, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
