The SR-71 Blackbird in 1:48 scale is an assembly of COBI plastic bricks depicting the American strategic reconnaissance machine.
Responsibility details are not available.
This assembly of COBI plastic bricks depicts the slender twin-engine aircraft whose profile became an icon of the Cold War. The individual elements have their color from the factory and join by pressure alone, with no chemicals and no tools.
The machine entered US Air Force service in 1966 and for three decades flew reconnaissance missions over areas no other equipment could reach. Its defense against missiles was not countermeasures but simple acceleration and climb – not one aircraft was lost to enemy fire. Its home base lay in California, from where the machines were sent out to forward operating locations in Asia and in Europe. Operating it was exceptionally costly, which led to withdrawal at the end of the 1980s; a few aircraft then returned briefly and the last flights took place in research service at the close of the century.
Lay the part-built whole on a soft surface, so that the surface of the elements is not rubbed. Always lift the front section with both hands and press the joints between the fuselage and the chines home properly, or the silhouette will stay wavy. Sort the elements by size before you start; it will save you hunting for them.
The fuselage and the wings go together from kit elements; no other preparation is required.
