A small but telling addition to the credibility of a cockpit. This set from the Czech maker Eduard contains the seat belts of the seat, made as color photo-etch in steel in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of the aircraft: the belts are glued into a kit that you buy separately.
The belts are a small part, but the whole impression of an open cockpit rests on them. The steel used in this line is more supple than brass and, above all, holds its shape once bent. A belt can therefore be left to drape freely over the edge of the seat, folded or slightly twisted, and it will stay in that position without being glued down along its whole length. It is exactly that irregularity that looks natural. The printing is done, buckles and fittings included, so there is no painting of parts a few millimeters across.
The U-2A is a single-seat high-altitude reconnaissance machine with a very slender fuselage and a cockpit of small volume. The cockpit is so cramped that once it is closed there is not much to see in it, which makes the little that is visible, the seat and the belts, stand out all the more. If you are building a model with the canopy open, the belts are among the first accessories worth having.
Separate them with a scalpel on a hard surface, not by twisting. Shape them gradually around rounded tweezers or a toothpick. To glue them, use a tiny drop of super glue applied with a pointed tool, or clear varnish, which gives you time to line things up. Do not spray over the color printing; put matte varnish only on the surrounding plastic.
This is an accessory set, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
