A decal sheet in 1:48 scale from the British brand Xtradecal. It contains the national crosses of the wartime Luftwaffe in forms and sizes matching the twin-engined Junkers Ju 88, Dornier Do 17, Dornier Do 215 and Messerschmitt Bf 110 types. It is not an airplane model but a standalone decal sheet with which a finished build is completed.
The markings packed with a kit tend to be printed less well, and after years in storage they yellow or fall apart. A standalone sheet of crosses answers three typical situations: making up missing markings, replacing damaged decals from the box and building a machine in a combination of markings that the kit manufacturer does not offer. Twin-engined aircraft carry crosses on the sides of the fuselage, on the upper surface of the wings and on the lower surface in different sizes, which is why the sheet works with several size ranges.
The base is what decides. The decal has to go onto a smooth glossy surface, never directly onto matte paint: a matte film is microscopically broken, air stays under the carrier membrane and the edges show as a silvered border. Spray gloss varnish on, therefore, let it cure properly and only then transfer the decals. Once dry, the whole area is sprayed with matte or semi-gloss varnish, which unifies the edges and seals the decal.
This is a standalone decal sheet. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
