A self-adhesive Art Scale masking set for a model of the Aichi M6A1 Seiran in 1:48 scale, supplied pre-cut to the final shape. The double-sided form covers the outer as well as the inner side of the clear parts, so you can spray the frames of the long canopy in the interior shade from the inside and in the covering finish of the airframe from the outside. That way you avoid touching up with a brush, which tends to be most visible on glazing. The set is an accessory to a kit: the model, paints and glue are not in the package. The masks are cut for the Tamiya kit.
Where it shows the most
The two-seat cockpit has several divided segments and their frames form a pronounced line along the whole spine of the fuselage. A pre-cut mask keeps a straight edge identically on every segment, which hand-cut tape practically cannot do.
The Aichi M6A1 Seiran was a Japanese floatplane with a two-seat cockpit, an inline engine and a pair of large floats. It was designed to be carried in the hangar of a large submarine, which called for a folding wing and folding tail surfaces and for a very compact layout overall. Only a small number of the machines built have survived and the type is among the most interesting Japanese designs of the end of the war.
First the inner masks and the interior, and only after they are dry the outside. Wash the clear part in lukewarm soapy water before sticking anything on, let it dry freely and touch it only with tweezers afterwards. Seat the masks one by one following the outline of the frame and push the edges down with a blunt toothpick; on the long canopy work segment by segment. Spray several thin coats with a pause between them. Remove the masks shortly after the paint is dry, lift a corner with the tip of a scalpel and pull at an angle along the surface.
The package contains only the masks. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
