An injection-molded plastic model of the Italian fighter aircraft Macchi C.202 Folgore in 1:48 scale from Hasegawa. It is a well-shaped kit with fine surface detail, a detailed cockpit with an instrument panel, and a detailed landing gear; decals for Italian aircraft color schemes are included. The model is famous for its excellent part fit — the accuracy of the fit makes building easier, helped also by a more modest part count.
The Macchi MC.202 Folgore (lightning) was one of the best Italian fighters of the Second World War. It was developed from the earlier MC.200 Saetta type, whose airframe received the inverted V12 engine Daimler-Benz DB 601, built under license in Italy (as the Alfa Romeo). The powerful supercharged engine, combined with an aerodynamically clean airframe, gave the aircraft excellent speed and climb, and the Folgore became the backbone of Italian fighter aviation on several fronts.
Thanks to the excellent part fit, the build is enjoyable and the joints mostly need little filling. Glue the parts with plastic model cement, and paint the cockpit before closing up the fuselage. Apply a primer before painting and use an airbrush; the characteristic mottled Italian camouflage (the so-called smoke rings) rewards patient masking and fine panel shading.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
