Self-adhesive cut masks for the model of the twin-engine Dornier Do 215B-5 in 1:48 scale, the BASIC version. It is an aid for painting — the package holds neither the model nor its parts. How to store the masks so that they last

The masks are sold applied to a backing sheet and in that state they keep for a long time. What matters is where you leave them lying: the adhesive does not take heat and direct sun, and a sheet left by a window or in a car can harden over the summer. The ideal is to leave the set in its original packaging, flat, dry and at room temperature. If you open the set and use only a part of it, fold the rest back over and do not crease the sheet — a fold across a mask ruins it.

Practical notes on the build

• Apply the masks only once the filling and sanding are finished, or dust will get underneath them.
• Clear parts are never sanded dry; any scratches are polished out with progressively finer grits.
• Before spraying, check that no edge of a mask is standing up — a lifted edge means a repair for certain.
• Keep the rest of the sheet, as small offcuts come in useful as patches when masking other parts.

For modelers building the Do 215B-5 in 1:48 scale who want clean glazing without lengthy masking by hand and are looking for the basic extent of the range. If you are building a model with a closed canopy and no open accesses, the basic extent is usually entirely sufficient.
