This item is neither an aircraft model nor a set of decals. It is a modeling accessory: a sheet of self-adhesive masking film with precisely cut shapes that are applied to the parts of the model before the paint is sprayed. The BASIC designation means the basic scope of the set, that is the smallest of the levels offered for this subject. The cut-outs follow the shape of the glazing and of the other areas as they are formed on the parts of the kit the set is designed for.
Outlining the canopy frames with a brush by hand almost always ends in an uneven line and in paint running onto the clear part. A mask holds the edge given by the shape of the part, so after it is lifted off a sharp transition remains and the glazing is left without smears. Compared with a frame applied as a decal it has the advantage of being sprayed in the same paint as the surrounding areas: the shade and the level of gloss match and nowhere does the edge of a carrier film stand out.
The set suits modelers who spray with an airbrush and want clean glazing and clean color transitions without the lengthy cutting of tape. It will also serve less experienced builders, because it makes masking markedly simpler and quicker. The basic scope is at the same time the smallest of the levels offered for this subject.
