Cut self-adhesive masks for building the British carrier machine Fairey Firefly in 1:48 scale. The BASIC designation describes the scope of the set: it is the basic variant, centered on the glazing. The manufacturer offers the same machine at the higher EXPERT level with considerably broader coverage as well. If what you mainly need is to deal with the canopy frames quickly and cleanly, BASIC is the logical choice.
The Fairey Firefly Mk.I was a British two-seat carrier aircraft with a Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, used in the fighter and reconnaissance roles by the Fleet Air Arm. Its hallmarks are the wings that fold for stowage on deck, the radiators in the leading edge of the wing root and the glazed stations of the pilot and the observer, one behind the other. It is exactly that long, intricate canopy with its many narrow frames that makes the most work during the build.
The cockpit frames in 1:48 scale are larger than in smaller scales, but there are many of them and they have to be the same width. Tape cut by hand easily shrinks as it is trimmed and the individual frames are then not symmetrical. A cut mask removes that problem and additionally lets you spray the frames in exactly the same shade as the airframe around them. That is something a decal will not achieve.
The set is tailored to one specific Trumpeter kit. It is not a model or a kit, and paints are not included in the package.
