Cut self-adhesive masks for painting a model of the Me 262 A-1a jet fighter in 1:48 scale. The product is not a kit and not parts for building, but an aid for spraying. With this maker the EXPERT designation means the widest of the coverages offered for the set, that is the version intended for masking a model as completely as possible.
The cockpit of the Me 262 has a great many divided panes and a prominent frame structure that cannot be missed on a model. It is the frames that decide whether a finished model reads convincingly. Pre-cut masks make sure they are the same width along their whole length and have a sharp edge. Cutting tape by hand for so many small panels almost always leads to unevenness.
The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the first jet fighter put into operational service. It was powered by two Jumo 004 engines and its speed was markedly higher than that of the piston fighters of the day. The A-1a version was the fighter variant with 30 mm cannon armament in the nose. In service the aircraft suffered from the short life of its engines and from the care needed in handling the throttle, but in performance it marked a turning point in aircraft design.
Models of this type are often finished in a combination of mottled camouflage and bare metal areas. Work from the lighter shades to the darker ones and let the paint become tacky between coats. Apply the mask to the glazing only once the cockpit interior has dried. Before lifting the mask off, run the point of a scalpel very lightly along the edge, so that the surrounding paint does not lift.
