Phantom FG.1 BASIC 1:48 mask set (New Ware)

The basic form of the mask set in 1:48 scale for the model of the two-seat Phantom in the FG.1 version. The cut self-adhesive masks are applied to the glazing and sprayed together with the outer coat, so that the frames have the same shade and sheen as the surrounding surface. The masks are cut for the Airfix 06016 kit.

A two-seat cockpit means twice the work

The Phantom has a tandem cockpit with two hinged canopies and a section between them. By hand that means twice as many cuts as on a single-seat fighter and twice as many chances of missing the mark. A cut set brings shapes for both parts and the frames then look uniform, which on a long cockpit shows most from the side.

What to watch out for

• Tell apart which parts belong to the front canopy and which to the rear one; at first glance they are alike.
• If you want the canopy open, mask the inner side of the frame as well, or bare plastic will be left on show.
• The gray finishes of naval machines reveal every bit of creep, so spray thinly and rather more than once.
• Once the mask is off, let the finish cure fully and only then glue the canopy into its final position.
• Keep the remaining parts of the sheet flat; they come in useful when repairing the coat later.

Who the set is for

For builders of the Phantom in its British naval form who want to solve the cockpit by spraying rather than painting over with a brush. The basic form is aimed at the glazing and is manageable even for a less experienced modeler, because the parts are fairly large and easy to handle.

The package holds only the mask set. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
