A set of precisely die-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of a variable-geometry fighter-bomber in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit and not a set of spare parts — it is a modeling aid that lets you spray the canopy frames and the other masked areas faster and more cleanly than with hand-cut tape. The BASIC designation means the basic extent of the range; the expanded variant for the same aircraft holds more masking parts.
A frame sprayed through a mask has a sharp edge and the same texture and degree of gloss as the camouflage around it, so the canopy blends optically into the fuselage. A frame painted by hand tends to vary in width and lets the light through, while a decal on the glazing creates a noticeable step and reflects light differently from a painted surface. A die-cut mask also follows the shape of the specific clear parts, so there is nothing to measure out or dry-fit.
Lift the individual parts off the backing film with pointed tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and transfer them onto clean, degreased and dry glazing. Press the mask down with a soft rubber spatula or a cotton swab, and be especially thorough along the perimeter — that is where the paint most often creeps underneath. Spray several thin coats and let the paint become tacky between them; one heavy wet coat will be drawn under the edge of the mask. Once the paint has dried, but while the finish is still flexible, lift the mask off at a shallow angle so that it does not tear the edge of the paint.
The package holds the masking film only. The model, the paints and the glue are not included in the delivery.
