A set of machine-cut self-adhesive masks in 1:48 scale for models of the AV-8B Harrier II attack aircraft with vertical and short takeoff. The name of the set gives the cockpit glazing and the wheel hubs. It is not a kit — it is an accessory that comes into its own only when painting. The pliable film follows the domed canopy and leaves no adhesive on the transparent part when removed. Furball Aero-Design is an American maker of accessories focused on the aircraft of the US Navy and Marine Corps.
The Harrier II is a single-seat attack aircraft with thrust vectoring: four rotating nozzles direct the gas flow downwards, which allows a vertical takeoff and landing and a short takeoff run with a combat load. Compared with the earlier Harrier it has a new composite wing with a greater area and load capacity and a higher-set cockpit with an improved view. The landing gear is of the tandem type with outrigger wheels at the wingtips, so the model has fewer wheels than an ordinary fighter, but they are clearly visible.
A high-set cockpit with a markedly domed canopy will test the adhesion of a mask. Before applying it, wash the part in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, rinse it and let it dry — wiping with alcohol alone is sometimes not enough. Lay the mask down center first and settle the edges gradually, so that the film does not ripple on the dome. If you want a gloss surface on the glazing, apply a coat of gloss clear to the part before masking. After spraying, take the mask off as soon as the paint has set, and glue the canopy to the fuselage at the very end, so that it is not soiled during weathering.
This is an add-on set for a kit you already own. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
