This set is not a kit of the aircraft but a detailed accessory: a resin replacement for the cockpit interior of a model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109K in 1:48 scale, also commonly designated the Me 109K. The casting from CMK replaces those parts of the cockpit that tend to be simplified in injection-molded plastic — the tub with its side panels, the instrument panel and the seat. The effect shows above all on a model built with the canopy open, where the interior is permanently on view.
The Bf 109 was one of the most numerously produced fighters of its day and went through a long series of versions. The K designation belongs to the last version in series production, which followed on from the G version and built on a number of design simplifications that streamlined manufacture. Power came from a supercharged, liquid-cooled inverted V12 engine in the layout typical of the late machines. Among the external recognition features of the K version are a tall vertical tail and reworked panels on the forward fuselage.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water, otherwise the paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the face by wet sanding with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue. The interior goes into the model before the fuselage halves are joined, so test-fit it dry and thin the fuselage walls from the inside as needed. Painting is easier away from the model: a base with an airbrush, a dark wash in the recesses, the edges and raised detail brought out with a dry brush, and the instrument panel finished with a fine brush and a drop of gloss varnish on the dials.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
