This is not a kit but an accessory for a model: a set of self-adhesive masks for the glazing of the Messerschmitt Me 163B Komet in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. The masks are pre-cut to the shape of the individual frames, so laborious cutting out of masking tape falls away. Check before buying that the set matches the kit you are building.
Eduard uses the TFace designation for sets that hold masks for the outer and the inner side of the glazing. The inner masks make it possible to spray the cockpit frames from the inside in the interior shade and from the outside in the camouflage shade of the aircraft. With the canopy closed that looks substantially more convincing than single-color frames. Standard masking sets without this designation cover the outer side only.
The Me 163B was a rocket-powered interceptor with a tailless wing, put into action in the closing stage of the Second World War. It was driven by a bipropellant liquid-fuel rocket motor; the running time of the motor was very short, but the rate of climb was extraordinary. It took off from a jettisonable dolly and landed by gliding onto a retractable skid. Operating it was technically demanding above all because of the aggressive propellants.
Degrease the glazing before masking and let it dry completely. Carry the masks with tweezers and press them down with a wooden toothpick, especially at the edges, so that paint cannot creep underneath. Spray in thin coats, as a heavy layer leaves a pronounced step once the mask comes off. Remove the mask shortly after the paint has dried, not after several days, and pull it diagonally across the edge of the frame.
The set holds masks only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
