The basic gray of the US Navy of the Second World War period carries the name US Navy WWII Navy Gray 5 in the Lifecolor acrylic range. A water-based acrylic paint for the vertical surfaces of US Navy ship models.
Responsibility details are not available.
A gray naval shade from the Lifecolor acrylic range, tied to the ships of the US Navy during the Second World War. The number five in the name refers to the period designation of the shade, not to a scale or to the contents of the package. The paint is acrylic, water-based.
Where it lies on a ship
American naval schemes worked with a set of grays that differed in lightness and each had its place. This tone belongs among the basic darker grays for vertical surfaces: the hull sides above the waterline, the walls of the superstructures, the funnels, the turrets and the gun shields. Leave the horizontal surfaces out of it: the decks and the tops of the superstructures have deck tones of their own in the American system, because they appear different when seen from above. It is precisely the consistent distinction of verticals and horizontal surfaces that makes a ship model convincing.
For modelers who build American ships in 1:700, 1:350 or in larger scales and want to start from a period gray on the hull rather than from a general gray shade. In larger scales it also suits as a darker tone for the transitions on areas where shadow gathers.
Keep out of the reach of children, work with good ventilation and close the container carefully after use.
