The Mi-17 is the export designation of a multirole helicopter that in its country of origin carries the designation Mi-8MT. It follows on from the widespread Mi-8, from which it differs in more powerful propulsion and in small things on the fuselage. It is a machine with a roomy cabin for cargo as well as troops, with sliding doors in the side, with large doors at the rear and with fixed wheeled landing gear. The main rotor has five blades. It flies all over the world in military, police and civil colors, so a modeler has plenty to choose from when picking a color scheme.
A photo-etched part is thin metal sheet in which the shape is etched chemically. The features then come out in a thickness of tenths of a millimeter, which cannot be done in plastic. On a model of a helicopter they tell chiefly where the material should be genuinely thin: instrument panels, seat harnesses, mesh, steps, fittings and small rods. Which parts of the model this set covers and which Mi-17 kit in 1:48 scale it is tuned for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the items with a sharp blade on a hard surface; scissors buckle thin sheet. Make the bend along the scored line, best in a bending tool. For gluing, use super glue or two-part glue; cement for polystyrene will not join metal. Degrease the metal before painting and coat it with a base color for metal, or the coat cracks and peels. Fit the parts for the cabin before you close the fuselage, or you will no longer reach them.
What is supplied is the photo-etched set. The model of the helicopter, glue, paints and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
