The Mi-17 is a multipurpose transport helicopter derived from the older Mi-8. It carries a roomy cargo cabin with large side windows and a crew cockpit with a console full of instruments, so once assembled the inside stays clearly visible both through the front glazing and through the side doors. That is precisely why with this type it pays to give the interior more than just a base coat.
The set brings color interior elements with a raised relief on which the instruments and the labels are printed straight in color. It therefore saves the laborious filling in of tiny dial faces with a brush. The elements are adapted to the Mi-17 kit from AMK in 1:48 scale, and the Small version designation refers to the smaller scope of the set. The exact composition is given in the maker's instructions.
The sheet is soaked briefly in lukewarm water, the element slides off the backing paper and settles onto a gloss varnish, which holds it; it has no adhesive layer of its own. A flat surface underneath is a mistake, and do not use a decal softener, as it attacks the printed resin. Wash and degrease the surface beforehand so that the element holds well. Work with tweezers or the tip of a knife, seat the element and press it down with a cotton bud from the center toward the edges; push it into the recesses with a blunt point. Once dry, the finished interior can be evened out with a flat varnish.
The set suits modelers who want the inside of the cockpit legible without painting tiny details. The package contains the elements listed; the model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
