A photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard focused on the interior of a model of the Mi-35M helicopter in 1:48 scale. The metal parts replace and add the plastic features of the cabin, that is, panels, consoles, levers and small fittings which injection-molded plastic simplifies. Eduard also makes sets for the same machine aimed at the exterior and at the cargo compartment, and a smaller pre-painted set of the Zoom line, so check which part of the model you want to deal with before buying. The kit is not included in the package.
The Mi-35M is the modernized export version of the Mi-24 attack helicopter. Against the older machines it has a shortened wing, fixed landing gear and composite main rotor blades. It keeps the dual role for which the type is known - an attack helicopter with room for carrying troops in the rear cabin. The crew sit in two separate cockpits one above the other, which is apparent from the outside in the stepped shape of the forward fuselage.
The interior has to be finished before the fuselage is closed up, or you will no longer reach it. Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard support and make the folds in a bending tool or between the jaws of flat pliers. Metal is glued with super glue, and stressed joints with epoxy. Degrease the parts that are not pre-painted and go over them with a primer. On photo-etched dials a drop of gloss varnish stands in for the glass. If you are going to build with the doors or the canopy open, it pays to put more time into the interior.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model on its own. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
