Miles Master Mk.I — masking set 1:48 (Montex)

A masking set in 1:48 scale from the maker Montex for the Miles Master Mk.I trainer. According to the name it contains two sets of glazing masks — for the inner and the outer side of the canopy — and one sheet of insignia masks. It is neither a kit nor decals; you are buying self-adhesive templates for spraying.

What the set solves

The long, many-paned canopy of a two-seat trainer is exactly the case where hand masking with tape does not pay. The masks for the outer side give sharp frames from outside, and the masks for the inner side stop the inner color of the frame showing through the glazing into the cockpit. The sheet of insignia masks is then an alternative to decals: you spray the insignia straight onto the surface, so there is no carrier film on the model, no silvering, and the color of the insignia is just as matte or glossy as the surrounding area.

The procedure for use

• Degrease the surface and let it dry completely.
• First apply the masks for the inner side of the glazing, and only then glue the cockpit onto the fuselage.
• Lay the outer masks on with tweezers without stretching them, and press the edges down with a blunt tool.
• With the insignia masks, spray the lighter color first, then once dry lay on the next part of the mask and add the darker shade.
• Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, at a sharp angle.
