Peru is among the few countries outside Europe that acquired the Mirage 2000. The order of the middle of the 1980s covered single-seat examples with the suffix P and two-seat training machines with the suffix DP, that is exactly the pair this sheet covers. The aircraft were concentrated in a single combat group in the south of the country and served for decades in the high-altitude desert there.
Where European users of the Mirage went for a uniform gray, South American customers often kept a more contrasting camouflage and more striking national insignia. The Peruvian national insignia with a red and white circle and the lettering on the fuselage therefore stand out more on a model than with French subjects, and a build thus takes on an unusual flavor.
The notation 2000P and DP means that markings are prepared for both forms of the machine. Before building, then, think over whether you will build the single-seat or the tandem airframe and choose the lettering accordingly; the cabin frames and the warning lettering differ in position between the two versions.
The mountainous terrain and the high-lying airfields placed considerable demands on the power unit and on the training of the crews, which was reflected in the operational practice of the squadrons there as well.
