Festive markings for a Mirage F-1C with the code 12-YH from the tiger meet of 1991. A decal sheet in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The gathering of tiger units has its roots at the start of the 1960s and has since become an institution that European air forces pass on like a baton. The French sent their machines to it from Cambrai and in 1991 the choice fell on a Mirage F-1C carrying the code 12-YH. Its appearance at that time is the only theme of this sheet.
The F-1C carried a radar in the nose and was armed with two cannons as well as short-range missiles, so it belonged to the classic machines of the Cold War. It is exactly the austerity of its ordinary gray camouflage that makes the festive finish such a striking contrast. The sheet therefore holds both the striking stripes and animal motifs and a set of small technical lettering, without which a model would read as unfinished.
The graphics follow on across several parts of the airframe at once. Before soaking, therefore, try out on the model exactly where the edge of the motif will run and, if need be, mark reference points lightly with a pencil. Lay the film on a smooth surface closed with varnish and push the excess water toward the nearest panel line, not across it. Once dry, look the whole surface over in a hard light, cut any small bubbles open and saturate them again with the solution.
The machines of EC 1/12 Cambresis appear at tiger meets across several decades and their finishes form a clear developmental series. The 1991 edition is among the earlier ones in it and suits anyone who wants to build such a series.
