This Dead Design masking set takes care of one of the most dreaded stages of building an aircraft model: painting the many-piece framing of the canopy. The set is intended for models of the Mitsubishi Reisen fighter in the A6M3 and A6M5 versions in 1:48 scale. The individual masks cover the clear panes of the canopy, so that you spray the frames quickly, with sharp edges and with no risk of scratching the transparent parts while removing dried paint.

The real subject

The Reisen fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy was one of the most famous aircraft of the Second World War. The A6M3 and A6M5 versions shared the characteristic richly framed canopy, and a clean rendering of it on a model decides the overall impression fundamentally - which is exactly why a masking set for the canopy ranks among the most useful accessories of the build.

Using the masks

• Wash and degrease the transparent parts before masking.
• Transfer the masks with tweezers and seat them along the frames of the canopy; press the edges down gently.
• Spray the frames first with the interior shade and then with the external camouflage color.
• Lift the masks off once the paint has dried with the tip of the tweezers, slowly and at a low angle.
