Painting Masks for the P-51D-5 Mustang

A set of painting masks for a model of the North American P-51D-5 Mustang fighter in 1:48 scale. The masks are pre-shaped, so the most tiresome part of masking falls away: cutting small outlines out of tape right on the model, where one wrong cut scratches the painted surface.

The real subject

The D version of the Mustang brought the teardrop canopy and the cut-down rear fuselage, which finally gave the pilot a view to the rear. It was powered by a Merlin V12, built under license for American Mustangs, with which an originally average aircraft became an escort fighter able to fly with bomber formations deep over the continent. The early production blocks, among them the D-5, did not yet have the dorsal fillet ahead of the vertical tail that later aircraft received.

How to use the masks

• Apply the masks to a clean and degreased surface before spraying the paint.
• Press the edges down carefully with a blunt tip so that paint cannot run under them.
• Spray in several thin coats, as a heavy coat leaves a step at the edge.
• Remove the mask as soon as the paint is dry, as it comes off less easily after a longer time.
• The extent of the set and the placement of the individual parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

This is an accessory for a kit. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
