The SPACE set from the Czech maker Eduard is an accessory to a plastic kit, not an airplane model. The SPACE range builds on a combination of color three-dimensional decals printed on decal paper and photo-etched steel seat belts. The decals have a real relief, so the instrument panels, side panels and consoles gain depth and legible detail without the need to pick out tiny knobs laboriously with a brush. The steel belts can be formed into a realistic sag and hold their shape without further stiffening. The set is intended for 1:48 scale and for the OV-10D+ version; the particular contents of the sheet and the number of parts are stated on the box.
The North American Rockwell OV-10 Bronco is a twin-engine turboprop aircraft with a pair of tail booms, designed for observation, forward air control and light attack duties from short and unprepared strips. What is characteristic is the glazed cabin with a very good view downward and forward, the high-set wing and the bay in the rear part of the fuselage. The OV-10D+ version represents an upgraded standard with improved avionics and equipment for operating in reduced visibility. It is precisely the extensive glazing that makes the interior a well-visible part of the finished model, which is why a detail set of this kind pays off more on a Bronco than on an aircraft with a small cockpit.
A three-dimensional decal differs from an ordinary one in the thickness of the layer and in the way it is transferred. Leave the surface under the decal smooth and degreased, moisten only the backing paper with a sponge and a drop of detergent, and lift the element off it with tweezers. Do not use a decal softener, as its chemistry attacks the printed resin; fix the element with PVA glue (white glue). The steel belts are best degreased first, bent over the edge of tweezers or a bending tool and glued with cyanoacrylate glue in a small amount. Finish the cockpit and let it dry thoroughly before you close it up with the clear part.
