This detail set from the Czech manufacturer Aires contains resin control surfaces for a model of the twin-boom Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter in 1:48 scale. The cast surfaces have a finer relief of fabric or sheet metal and sharper leading and trailing edges than injection-molded plastic and make it possible to fit them realistically deflected. The set is a replacement part, not a standalone model.
Deflected control surfaces and flaps bring a static model markedly to life and suggest movement. The resin surfaces replace the flat plastic parts from the kit; thanks to the different angle of each surface they add dynamism to the aircraft.
Wash the parts free of mold release agent and cut them from the casting block with a fine saw. Bond them with super glue and, if necessary, adjust the mating surfaces so that they fit into the recesses of the wing and the tail surfaces. Use respiratory protection while sanding resin.
The set contains the resin control surfaces only. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
