The real subject

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was an American twin-engined fighter with a characteristic twin-boom structure and a central nacelle for the pilot. The P-38J version is recognized from the older machines by its reworked cooling with intake openings under the engine nacelles. The cockpit is small in size but has many straight frames, where every unevenness of paint is visible at once.

How to use the mask

• Separate the film from the backing with a scalpel or tweezers and stick it on the degreased clear part.
• Press the edge down along the whole outline with a wooden toothpick, mainly in the corners of the frames.
• Cover the other areas with masking tape or with masking fluid.
• Spray several thin coats, because a heavy coat runs under the edge of the mask.
• Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, at a sharp angle to the surface.
