An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the ROYAL CLASS range — the highest and most richly equipped edition from Eduard. The designation DUAL COMBO means that the box holds two complete sets of plastic parts, that is, two aircraft in the combination of markings you choose. To this the Royal Class adds colored photo-etched parts, resin accessories — exhausts, seats with belts and wheels in two forms —, a mask set including covers for the landing gear bays, decals for twelve markings (American USAAF, Australian RAAF, British RAF, New Zealand RNZAF and Chinese) and bonus items — an art print and a magnet. The British counterpart, the Kittyhawk Mk.IV, can be built as well.
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was an American fighter with a liquid-cooled V engine which lodged itself in the public mind through the shark mouth on its nose. It was no champion at altitude, but it was tough, built in enormous numbers and dependable at low level, where it served both as a fighter and as a ground-attack aircraft. The P-40N version is a late variant: the designers persistently took weight out of it (among other things through a lightened structure and changes to the armament and equipment) in order to improve the rate of climb and the performance. It is therefore a different machine from the early P-40E, which Eduard issues in a separate edition — check which version you want before buying. The P-40N was widely deployed in the Pacific, in China and with the Allied air forces of the Commonwealth.
Bond the plastic with thin cement for polystyrene, and the photo-etch and the resin with super glue (cyanoacrylate). First wash the resin parts free of mold release agent residue and cut the casting blocks off. The colored photo-etched parts for the cockpit are ready to be stuck on — do not spray over them. Unify the surface with a primer, spray with an airbrush, put a gloss coat under the decals and finally a matte coat over them. The mask set will speed the framing of the canopy and the wheels up considerably. Given the number of markings, it pays to decide in advance which two machines you will build.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
