A detail set of the Type 1 seat for the P-51B/C in 1:48 scale, which replaces the basic part in the cockpit with a more precisely shaped substitute.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory for a build, not a model of the aircraft. The set brings a replacement pilot's seat for a model of the Mustang in the B or C version in 1:48 scale, in the execution designated as Type 1. The seat is very clearly visible in the cockpit of a Mustang, especially under an open canopy, so replacing this single part moves the overall impression of the interior noticeably forward.
The P-51B and the P-51C were the first Mustangs with the British Merlin engine produced under license by the Packard company. It was with that engine that a machine originally used for reconnaissance and attack became an escort fighter able to follow bomber formations over enemy territory. Both versions kept the original raised spine behind the cockpit and differed mainly in the place of production. The cockpit stayed relatively cramped, and the fittings of the seat changed during production, which is why replacement parts are distinguished by types.
Before the build, wash the part with lukewarm water and dish soap and let it dry, so that a primer holds on it. Cut the casting block off with a saw as close to the part as possible and level the surface by wet sanding. Resin parts are bonded with super glue; cement for plastic has no effect here. Seat the seat dry first and check the height against the cockpit floor. The interior comes out best when the base shade of the cockpit is completed with a dark wash in the folds and fine emphasis on the edges.
