1:48 P-51B/P-51C Mustang wheels block tread 2 is the second variant of resin wheels with a block tread for the B and C versions of the Mustang in 1:48 scale from Eduard.
Responsibility details are not available.
The figure at the end of the name is not a typo – Eduard lists two separate sets of wheels with a block tread for the B and C versions of the Mustang, and this is the second of them. The brand uses the same practice in other scales of the same aircraft as well, so it is an established way of telling apart two treatments of one subject. Both sets replace the plastic wheels from the box and neither of them makes a model on its own.
What decides is the documentation of the machine you are building. Look up a detailed photograph of the landing gear and compare the shape of the hub and the arrangement of the blocks on the tread with the illustration on the packaging. If you have no photograph, you will spoil nothing essential with either choice – the differences between the treatments are subtle in this scale and concern mainly details in the shape of the wheel.
The P-51B and P-51C versions are told from the later Mustangs by the dorsal spine behind the cockpit. They flew as escort fighters over occupied Europe, and in British service some of the machines were given a different canopy. The landing gear wheels came from several suppliers, which is exactly why more than one type of tire exists for a single aircraft.
Rinse the castings, cut the casting pad off the bottom and true it, so that the model stands evenly on every point. It is best to spray the tire in dark gray first and then go lightly over the raised parts of the tread with a lighter shade – that brings the pattern out. Separate the hub with a mask and finish it only once the rubber has dried.
