1:48 P-51D-5 Mustang from Red Fox Studio is a set of 3D textured instrument panels and seat belts on decal paper. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory for the cockpit of a finished kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set replaces the flat instrument panels and the missing seat belts in the cockpit of the P-51D-5 fighter in 1:48 scale. The details are printed on decal paper with a layered, raised structure, so once applied the gauges, the switches and the belts look three-dimensional. The set is cut for the Meng Model kit. This is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory for the cockpit of the base kit.
The D-5 block belongs to the earliest forms of the Mustang with the bubble canopy. That canopy is the key point for the set: under the sliding cover without framing practically the whole interior is visible including both side consoles, so nothing can be hidden. The instrument panel is purely analog, with round gauges grouped into the flight set in the middle and engine instruments at the sides. On the left is a prominent console with the throttle, on the right the radio equipment panel. The set also deals with the seat belts, which in plastic from the mold tend to be suggested only by engraving.
The procedure is that of an ordinary decal, not of a glued part. The part is cut out, soaked in lukewarm water, positioned on a painted and completely dry base and left to dry. The base should be smooth and matte or semi-gloss, so that no bubbles form underneath. Dose the decal softener by drops, so that the layered structure does not collapse. It is a good idea to sand the engraved panels in the plastic flat beforehand.
The accessory is supplied without a kit, paints or glue. Check before ordering that it matches your particular kit.
