Film for masking the glazing and the national insignia of the P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:48 scale. The package contains parts for both sides of the canopy, one set of insignia masks and decals. Cut for the model from Tamiya.
Responsibility details are not available.
The D version received a cut-down fuselage spine and a molded teardrop canopy, which opened up the pilot's view to the rear. That advantage came at a price: the reduced side area of the rear worsened directional stability, so a low dorsal fin was added in production and older examples received it retrospectively at the units. The armament grew to six large-caliber machine guns mounted upright in the wing, which removed the belt jams the previous version had suffered from.
With drop tanks under the wing the fighter reached such a range that it could stay with the bomber formations for the whole way into the heart of Germany and back again. That was the part of the war the earlier types could not manage. After 1945 the machine did not go for scrap: in Korea it returned as an attack aircraft in support of ground troops, and in the armed forces of Latin America it served into the early eighties.
The enclosed films are pre-cut to the frames of the canopy. The outer set serves during spraying of the camouflage, the inner one is applied from inside so that the frame does not stay transparent on the cockpit side. The insignia masks make it possible to spray the American stars in a rectangular field straight onto the skin.
