A set of masks for painting a model of the Japanese twin-engine heavy fighter Kawasaki Ki-45 Kai in 1:48 scale. According to the name it consists of two parts: masks for the aircraft itself and masks for the national insignia.
The Ki-45 Kai was a twin-engine two-seat machine that the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force used in the role of a heavy fighter. In Japanese service the name Toryu was used for it, while the Allies introduced the code designation Nick for it. The cockpit glazing on this type is long and broken up, so masking the frames by hand takes up a substantial part of the time of a build.
A sprayed insignia has no carrier film, no glossy edge and no step on the surface, so after flattening it merges with the surrounding varnish. On the cockpit the masks also keep the frame the same width along its whole length, which a line drawn freehand will never match.
The masks are stuck onto a clean and degreased surface before spraying, not after it. Press the edges down firmly with a toothpick, so that the paint does not run under them. Apply the paint in several thin coats; a heavy coat creates a step at the edge of a mask. Remove them while the paint is freshly dried, pulling back over themselves at a sharp angle, not perpendicularly upward.
The package contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
